My third appearance at the Southdown Marketplace, held on November 3, 2007 began early with set-up with friendly neighbors, coffee & beignets! An early start on the plantation served as a great springboard for the busy day to come! As the gates opened for the marketplace, the community flooded the grounds of Southdown Plantation. Every year, the Southdown Marketplace attracts many people in local and surrounding areas.

Unlike last year, the day was beautiful with plenty of sunshine and smiles! I gave demonstrations and spoke about lampworking. Many loyal customers were happy to see that I could give the demo as watched with excitement. It was wonderful to see so many happy and familiar faces!
The Terrebonne Historical & Cultural Society (THACS) was founded in 1972 by a group of citizens interested in preserving the history and culture of Terrebonne Parish and Southdown Plantation. Bi-annually, the Southdown Plantation hosts the South down Marketplace. It is a one-day only arts & crafts show with more than 300 local and national vendors with unique hand-made products including jewelry, clothing, woodcrafts, original art, garden items, seasonal products and more! The marketplace has taken place for over 25 years, is family-friendly and an alcohol-free atmosphere. All proceeds generated from the day benefits the non-profit Terrebonne Historical & Cultural Society and Southdown Plantation House/The Terrebonne Museum. Not only do the various vendors sell their wares, educate the public about their craft, they are also generating funds for the community - Southdown Plantation! |
