I have been an artist for well over a decade. It all began with myself experimenting with various mediums throughout my life, gems... rocks... silver... eventually leading to my love for glass art.
As a child, I collected everything that sparkled or shined, and soon had horded an immense 'rock' (gem) collection and even gone to the extent of memorizing their scientific names. I think I drove my family crazy on family vacations when we passed the tourist "traps" - I would spend hours sifting through the rock boxes that no one else seemed to notice. In college, my interest in gems morphed in to the world of gemstone beads. On numerous occasions I could not find jewelry that I enjoyed - this led me to dust off my bead boxes and make my own creative designs. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, I utilized art therapy with visually and hearing impaired children. In class sessions, I continued to share my love of creating art and incorporated bead stringing in my daily lessonss whenever possible! | | | My world changed in 2005 when I met Jo Bean, soon to be my mentor in the world of lampworking. As an apprentice in her glass studio situated on top of a scenic hill on the beautiful island of Saba, I learned the fine art of lampworking or glass bead making. The Caribbean ocean and tropical environment proved to be the ultimate inspiration as I spent the next two years improving my technique and finding my own expression of glasswork. Being an avid photographer and world traveler, I inherently have fused my love of art and nature into unique jewelry designs. Each of my creations are painstakingly handcrafted from the highest quality Italian glass and exquisite stones imported directly from India to South America. I addition to lampwork designs; I create wedding and children's jewelry and have completed many private commissions. I have come a long way from the pig-tail gemstone pocketing, sparkle seeking little girl. I believe that we all have and will always have inner sparkle and adventurous curiosity. Through my jewelry designs, it is my hope that you will remember your inherent sparkle! |
